About Orna Mentz
"The Orna Mentz Journey"
by Jeanne Barnett
In 1992, while living in Wilmington, DE, I started a small cottage business creating and selling my own designs of Victorian Style Christmas Tree Ornaments. In 1996 I went online. In 2002, I left my secure 9-5 job as a legal secretary and decided to try my luck as a full time entrepreneur.
In 2005, I realized that in order to make the business really work, I needed to add more products to my online catalog, so I began sourcing out items which fit the Victorian theme that my handmade ornament designs embraced. By 2006, things were going very well, so well in fact that I found myself in great need for more space, so we began to plan a move to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwestern Virginia. On February 14, 2007 we purchased our beautiful property located in Fancy Gap Virginia, and by July of 2007, we were fully moved in. Later in 2007, the economy crashed, but my business growth did not seem to feel the effects, even into 2008 when I had my best year ever!
By 2009, the economy finally caught up with me and not only were my sales literally cut in half, but other businesses that I would buy from began to lose their entire businesses. It was heartbreaking to call one of my suppliers to place an order, only to find out that they were no longer there, one after the other they went under and my catalog began to shrink.
In 2011, my long time prints supplier, Gallery Graphics, also went out of business. This company had been supplying me with most of the 'non-ornament' items that I carried in my store, including over 1000 Victorian Art Prints, and suddenly, I found myself with a website that couldn't offer much more than the ornaments that I designed and made myself. I still had some of the items in my inventory, but it seemed like overnight I went from 4000 product offerings down to less than 1000.
After shedding many tears of frustration, I got to thinking. I knew that there were a lot of great Artists and Artisans out there that had wonderful products to sell, but really couldn't afford to launch an entire e-commerce operation on their own. Even the 'cookie cutter' websites that offer low rates and 'no html required' still carried a monthly cost, were woefully lacking in search engine page ranking, and really weren't all that easy to manage.
I decided that with all I had learned over the years about running my own enterprise, and my own website, I was in a great position to be able to offer these Artists and Artisans space in my Orna Mentz e-commerce platform, (which can host up to 5000 products!) I felt very confident that I could offer this not only to Artisan friends of mine, but to anyone else who might want to try selling online without the cost or the hassel!
So "Orna Mentz" became "The Orna Mentz Shopping Mall". Take a few minutes to browse around. There are already a lot of great things to shop for, and I hope that you will come back often and see what is new!
I also hope that if you are an Artist or Artisan - Crafter, Potter, Seamstress, or have any other type of handmade item that you would like to offer for sale in my Mall, you will feel free to contact me, and I will be happy to answer any and all questions you may have.
No listing Fees/Pay only when you sell!
There is a 0 (ZERO) upfront cost to list your products in the Orna Mentz Mall, and I collect only 10% of your total sale -- this is like a 90/10 consignment in your favor! Where can you ever find something like that? And the10% is really just enough to cover the expenses of processing your customer's credit card payments, plus a little extra to help keep me motivated. .
You Can Also Get your Own Website!
If you are also interested in having your own standalone website that links to the Mall, I have a couple of low cost packages for that as well. You can look them over at my 'other' website www.Barnett-Web.com. Included in my website packages is the guarantee that I will work very hard to get your business a good page ranking in google, as well as other search engines.
By listing in the Orna Mentz Mall, you will also have the advantage of the network of product rankings that my Mall already has, driving an average number of 200 visitors a day, and about triple that number during the Christmas season. Trust me, I'm just a regular person and, because of my experience selling online, I really do know how to do this! With no upfront cost, what have you got to lose?

It is my firm belief that American Artists, Crafters and Artisans working together can overcome the financial challenges that were rained down upon us back in 2007, and together we can all reclaim our independence and achieve great success!
My very best regards,
